Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 01:04, the Millersburg Fire Company was dispatched to a reported small outside fire on Berrysburg Road. Chief 20 (Snyder) responded and was given further information that the caller was on Berrysburg Road and could see a large fire between Berrysburg Road and Shippen Dam Road. Chief 20 arrived to find a fully involved barn fire on Sheetz Road and requested the first alarm. Tanker and Engine 20 arrived and set up the dump site and crews pulled a 3” line with blitz fire and a preconnect line to protect the East exposure. After dumping their water, the Tanker proceeded to the North side of the structure and farm house to assist in exposure protection and extinguishment efforts. Initial extinguishment efforts were made on a camper that sat on the south side of the barn and had a propane cylinder attached. The camper was cooled down to limit any potential BLEVE issues with the small cylinder. Most of the structure had collapsed, however crews fought the fire from a distance to limit any further collapse hazard. Tanker 21 arrived and set up an additional port-a-pond and they, along with Tankers 216, 26 and 29, began shuttle operations from the fill site with Engine 29-1 at a pond on Etzweiler Road. Crews spent most of the night trying to extinguish the blaze which consisted of some equipment and old hay. Thanks to Engine 216-1 for standing by in quarters and helping clean up our hose when we returned! Thanks to Seth Lasko Photography for the photos.
